January 16, 2012

Hello WGS Minors, Supporters, and Friends!
My name is Amanda D. Brooks and I am President of the newly founded Women’s and Gender Studies Honor Society at Cal Poly—Iota Iota Iota, also known as Triota.

Triota is named after the ancient goddesses, Inanna, Isthar, and Isis. Its purpose is to encourage and support scholarship and excellence in Women’s and Gender Studies at Cal Poly through the recognition of outstanding student achievements. This new Honor Society will also strive to support feminist values such as egalitarianism, justice, inclusiveness, and the celebration of all gendered identities on our campus and in our community. In collaboration with organizations such
as the Society for Women Engineers, Hollaback! SLO and the Gender Equity Center, members of Triota will work to enhance the experiences of Cal Poly students interested in academic and activist work related to gender and sexuality.

Students do NOT need to be WGS minors to apply to join Triota. If you or someone you know has a grade point average of a 3.0 or better AND has completed at least 8 units of courses in Women’s & Gender Studies OR has demonstrated a strong interest in WGS by completing a minimum of 20 documented hours of volunteer or paid work related to gender or sexuality, then I would like to personally invite you to come be apart of the first WGS Honor Society at Cal Poly.

Come join myself and the other Triota officers at our meeting on January 19th between 11:00—12:00 in Bldg. 022 Rm. 210 and learn how you can get involved in community service projects, selecting a speaker to come to campus, and changing the dynamics at Cal Poly to create an atmosphere of tolerance and gender equality! (All of course over a slice of FREE pizza!)

If you have any questions about your qualifications please feel free to email your questions to Triotacalpoly@gmail.com.

We look forward to seeing you on January 19th!

Thank you for your time,
Amanda Brooks
